Early Times Report
Jammu, May 10 : In a strange move that has cost the exchequer Rs 2.95 crore, the Revenue department has acquired nearly 101 kanals of private land despite availability of adequate state land. Sources told Early Times that the Revenue department had, at least in nine cases belonging to four districts, made available six indenting departments with private lands without specific requirements put forth by the latter and without location and type of land demanded in their indents. The land records in the four districts of Budgam, Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur, showed that the District Collectors had acquired 101 kanals and 10 marlas private land costing Rs 2.95 crore in nine cases of land acquisitions in district and tehsil headquarters despite the fact that sufficient quantum of vacant state land was available within short distance of the site of proprietary land acquired. As per cases of land acquisitions, in Udhampur district the Revenue department acquired 1 kanal and 10 marlas of private land for construction of Government Higher Secondary School, Lander Diggi. The land was acquired despite availability of vacant state land of 115 kanals. Likewise, for construction of water tank and PHE quarter at Darsoo, five kanals and 10 marals land were acquired despite vacant state land of 145 kanals and 18 marlas. And for raising PHE store at Rehamble, 22 kanals and 1 marlas were acquired despite vacant state land of 145 kanals and 15 marlas. Similarly, in Kathua district, the Revenue department made available private land to indenting departments in three cases. For construction of medical sub centre Mahi Chak it acquired one kanal private land despite vacant state land of 625 kanals and five marlas; for construction of medical sub centre Androte, one kanal was acquired despite 364 kanals available, and for construction of road for Bnayri to Khanpur, one kanal and 9 marlas of private land was acquired. Here in Jammu district, the Revenue department acquired 12 kanals and 1 marlas of private land for solid waste management at Akhnoor. The land was acquired despite availability of 1500 kanals. Also, for construction of a degree college at Bishnah, 55 kanals and 14 marlas were acquired despite 106 kanals state land available in the vicinity. "Such land acquisition had been made for non-location specific purposes like construction of school, college, PHE store, tank, medical center, waste disposal, filtration plant etc. But it was seen that neither the land acquisition awards contained details of specific requirements put forth by the indenting departments nor the indents placed were produced from six indenting authorities about the location and type of land demanded in their indents barring one indenting department PDD which had requested for government land," said the sources. |
