Govt schools in Rajouri lack proper infrastructure | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, May 10: Most of the government schools in Rajouri district lack adequate infrastructure including desks, drinking water, and separate toilets for girl students. The buildings of many schools are in deplorable conditions and the lives of children are at high risk. Despite having all the necessary information about the condition of such schools, district authorities as well as education department seems to be in deep slumber. Many school buildings are either fully or partially damaged due to torrential rains in the month of September and till today these buildings have not been attended to. Children and teachers of primary school at Dandote in Kotranka tehsil on Saturday held a protest demonstration in the school campus alleging that all the three rooms of the schools had suffered heavy loss in September month's flash floods and since then no official visited the school for any help. "One room was fully damaged in the torrential rains while remaining two had developed big cracks and became unsafe. Despite bringing the matter into the notice concerned officials nothing has been done and children are forced to sit inside these damaged rooms at the risk of their lives" said Mushtaq , a resident of the area. He added that the lives of teachers and about 130 students are at stake as the roof and walls of these two rooms are in dilapidated condition. He and other inhabitants of the area have demanded immediate repair of existing building or construction of new building. Most of the primary schools either have building in very bad conditions or many among these schools are running in single rented rooms and due to lack of physical and human resources poor children are marred with poor quality of education in these schools. These schools have very thin enrollment of students ranging betwee2 -10 students and government has been planning to close these schools as the teachers are getting handsome salaries without any work. Despite all these shortcomings, people have been criticizing the government teachers for poor education in government schools. Are these teachers getting facilities like being provided in the private institutions? No, because most of the government schools including primary and middle give an impression of cow sheds where they have to teach many classes in single or two rooms. Teachers are asked to enhance the strength of students in government schools which is not possible for them in such situations. In rural areas education department has a policy of two teachers for five classes but has no staff rationalization system and many schools have more teachers and fewer students while some have more students and only s single teacher. In some schools Urdu teacher teachs mathematics while mathematics teacher teaches Geography. According to a teacher, primary schooling plays a major role in the development of a child and is the backbone of education system. "If the backbone is fractured nobody can stand up or do anything" said teacher and added concerned officials must come out of their air conditioned offices and must devise the policies keeping in view the ground realities and local conditions. |
