College students protest against 'semester system' | | | Early Times Report Udhampur May 11: A protest demonstration was organised by the students of various Degree Colleges of Udhampur here today against the Jammu University authorities for introducing semester examination policy and also blocked the national highway for over one hour MH Chowk Udhampur to register their protest. Earlier agitating students took out a protest rally from Bhartiya College and after passing infront of Govt College for Women Udhampur and PG College Udhampur, the students assembled at Indra Chowk Udhampur after that they marched towards MH Chowk and also blocked National Highway. The protestors disrupted the normal vehicular movement for over one hour. They students lifted their protest only after getting assurance from District Administration. Led by students leaders Rohit Khajuria, Pooja Sharma, Vinkal Sharma, Sadaf, Eklavya Sallan and Aman Sharma the protestors alleged that students will suffer due to new examination policy introduced by University of Jammu. Protestors demanded that university authorities shall roll back the new semester system in graduation courses or introduce carry on system/(compartment system) to allow the re-appear students carry on their further studies till final semester and give them time to clear all subjects of the successive semesters. They also demanded authorities to postpone the scheduled date sheet of the second semester of first year because syllabus is still incomplete. Besides this the students demanded university to allow the provision of rechecking /allow the students to see their answer sheets so that transparency is maintained. Meanwhile Additional Deputy Commissioner Udhampur who rushed to spot to pacify the protesting students gave a patient hearing to demands of the students and assured to take up their demand to the university authorities. Earlier authorities detained social worker Ajaz Sumberiya under precautionary manner however he was released after the protest. Later Sumberiya said that a deputation will also meet the Minister for Education to seek his intervention in the matter. |
