Kathua, May 21: Ina sharp contrast of social set up the Deputy Commissioner Office presented a atypical example as at one hand employees and senior officials were seen occupied in farewell cum welcome bash on the other hand PHE Casual Provision (CP) workers were seen continuing with their indefinite strike in support of release of their pending salaries. Reports said that the district officers were seen pre occupied today in a bid to impress transferred DC Kathua Shaheed Iqbal and the new incumbent AS Jamwal but there was none who could dare to utter a word of sympathy to hundreds of CP workers of PHE department who are on strike demanding the release of their salaries pending for the last two years. Workers alleging that they have not received salary for last two years and went on indefinite strike affecting PHE water supply in whole district for last two days making people also to suffer but whole administration seemed quite busy in impressing DDCs. Raj Kumar, an elder man, said people are suffering due to scarcity of drinking water in this scorching heat as PHE workers are on strike, people are crying for water in last 2 days, deputations called on PHE district level officers and district administration but surprisingly people found offices empty on office hours. As it was special occasion for district level officers to impress DDCs and these officers left others to suffer also as dozens of Safailkarmcharis were deployed to clean road from DDC residence to DDC Office Complex while main chowks of Kathua city presented ugly look as no safaikarmcharis or Municipal Committee's employee took initiative to clean the roads.Sukhwinder Singh, College going youth, said Bureaucrats must themselves realize their duties towards people as they are public servant. He said transfers are routine affair and officials need not to spend huge amount to impress their bosses. Naresh Sharma, Congress activist, said It is shameful while shortage of drinking water due PHE workers' strike has affect normal life of people but concerned authorities are busy to impress DDCs. |
