Omar taunts BJP, ridicules its stand on Article 370 | Questioning CM for no reason | | Early Times Report Jammu, May 21: What has PDP patron and J&K CM Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to do with what the national BJP leadership and BJP ministers are doing and saying at the national level? Mufti Sayeed is concerned with the agenda of alliance on the basis of which he formed coalition government with the BJP and that too on his own terms and conditions. The PDP didn't want the BJP to include in it any reference to Article 370 to which the nationalist constituency in J&K was, and is, bitterly opposed, the BJP cheerfully and happily agreed and in the process shocked its own constituency both in Jammu and Ladakh. The BJP not only accepted the PDP's stand on Article 370, but also went several steps further and included in the agenda of alliance almost all the suggestions and demands of the PDP. And still National Conference president, former Chief Minister and presently Leader of opposition in the Assembly, Omar Abdullah, is unhappy with Mufti Sayeed and targets him for those things which the BJP national leaders and BJP ministers at the centre say to which they are not really committed. The other day, Omar Abdullah targetted Mufti Sayeed and asked him to "explain contradictory statement of his coalition partner" (BJP). Reacting to the statement made by Union Law Minister Ravishankar Prasad to a news channel that "his party has not abandoned Article 370 and it is still a part of their manifesto," Omar Abdullah said, "Mufti Sahib do you care to explain the contradiction between this and what you've been telling people of Jammu & Kashmir?" There was nothing in the statement of the BJP Minister which should provoke Omar Abdullah to train his guns at Mufti Sayeed. Mufti Sayeed is just a coalition partner in the Jammu & Kashmir Government. His party is not part of the BJP-led NDA Government and, hence, Mufti Sayeed has no mandate to question what the BJP ministers do at the centre. Even otherwise, he has no right to issue diktats to other parties. But more than that, Omar Abdullah should know that the BJP had decided to not release its election manifesto during the Assembly elections in Jammu & Kashmir only to respect the sentiments of the critics of Article 370 in Kashmir. It appears Omar Abdullah is not aware of this fact. He perhaps has also not read the BJP's 2014 vision document on Jammu & Kashmir. Had he read it, he would not have targetted either the BJP or the PDP. For, the vision document didn't contain any reference to Article 370. The fact of the matter is that Omar Abdullah is issueless and he is seeking to make issues out of non-issues to remain in the news. He should commend the BJP which has been taking one U-turn after another to please Kashmir. Omar Abdullah would do well to play some constructive role as he is the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly. |
