Srinagar, June 3: Upping its ante, Pakistan today intensified its provocative statement on Kashmir even as ghosts of Kargil war of 1999 returned to hound Twitter. Pakistan Army claimed that Kashmir is a "disputed territory" and "unfinished agenda". "Kashmir is an unfinished agenda of partition, Pak & Kashmir are inseparable. While we wish peace, stability in region, we want Kashmir's Just Resolution in the light of UN resolutions & as per aspirations of Kashmiris to bring lasting peace in region," tweeted Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General quoting Pakistan Army chief General Raheel Sharif. The tweet triggered a massive debate on the social networking websites with the Pakistan statement being seen as "provocative and uncalled for." Many said the tweet has vindicated role of Pakistan Army in fueling the Kargil war and militancy in Kashmir. While this debate was on, within hours Pakistan came up with another provocation. The neighboring country rejected the remarks by the spokesperson for the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, in which he had said the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir, including the regions of Gilgit and Baltistan as an integral part of India. Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesman in a statement, "reminded that Kashmir is an internationally recognized dispute, pending final settlement through a free and impartial plebiscite under the UN auspices, as enshrined in numerous UN Resolutions." " Under these Resolutions no material change is allowed, yet India, in complete violation of these Resolutions, calls it a state of the union," the spokesman claimed. He said, "The Indian description of the elections being held in Gilgit-Baltistan on 8th of this month 'as an attempt by Pakistan to camouflage its forcible and illegal occupation of the regions' is interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan." He said it is actually India which is "unlawfully occupying" the territories of Jammu and Kashmir. "To maintain its illegal hold on that disputed territory, India has deployed over seven hundred thousand of its forces, atrociously tries to suppress majority voice of Kashmiri Muslims and holds sham elections at gun-point," the statement said. Political analysts having been saying that amid "soft stand" of India, Pakistan has changed its Kashmir policy making it more "volatile and provocative." "Separatists are being seen as Pakistan's favorite pawns, which are made to work as per Pakistan's needs before the international community," they said. The analysts have been saying that India needs to reframe its policy towards the neighboring country. |
