GS Asgotra Early Times Report Jammu, June 3: A Delhi based security agency which has been providing security to Aircel telecom tower in Jammu region from more than three years has blatantly deprived their security guards of the benefits of Employee State Insurance (ESI) Scheme. Against nearly 550 security guards who are engaged for security of the telecom towers, only 100 guards have been so far covered under this scheme. Source in department informed Early Times that the 'Orion Security Solution Private Limited' had taken the security contract from the Aircel telecom company on 1-04-2012 since the gullible security guards have repeatedly requested to the security agency to cover them under the ESI scheme but the agency remained inert to the legitimate demand of the security guards. "The agony of the guards could be gauged from the fact that they perform duties round the clock in far flung areas of the state and the security agency in return has been depriving the naïve guards from basic insurance scheme", said an employee wishing anonymity. He further said that according to norms of the ESIC (Employee State Insurance Corporation) for any organization/ factory that engages more than 10 employees in any institution, it is mandatory that 1.75 percent from the employee wages and 4.75 percents from the employer income should be deposited in ESIC office to meet any mishap, but it is not being done. Another security guard giving service in Tehsil Basohli said that after an interval, the Aircel Telecom Company changes the security contractors and our genuine demands remain unfulfilled, adding, "Before Orion Security Solution, we have given services to BD Security agency and one day the concerned security incharge informed us the security agency had been changed", he said. Jagtar Singh, Incharge of Orion Security Solution said that till date they have covered 100 security guards under ESI scheme and rest would be covered. He further said that it was not responsibility of the employer, the employee should apply and then his case is considered. |
