Early Times Report
Jammu, June 3: Amidst speculations that the coalition partner BJP is in hurry for early start of IIT and Cluster University in Jammu, a number of aspirants for the Vice-Chancellor of proposed university have started lobbying for the top position.
Even as the State Government has yet to pass an Act in the State Assembly for its formal nod to start this university, sources said that a number of senior professors in Jammu have started activating their political contacts in the corridors of power to get their name shortlisted for the post of Vice-Chancellor.
For the purpose, sources added, these aspirants are trying their best to establish contact with top BJP leaders and Sangh Parivar, particularly those who had played a key role in selection of Prof RD Sharma and Prof Ashok Aima as Vice-Chancellor of Jammu University and Central University Jammu, respectively.
A senior RSS leader in J&K, who is holding top organizational position in BJP, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and a Union Minister are the most preferred persons, who are being approached by the aspirants for seeking their support. A few contenders are even looking for some mediators to take up their case before the appropriate authority, sources added.
Sulking Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad, which was not taken into confidence by the Union HRD Ministry in the appointment of Prof Ashok Aima as Vice-Chancellor of CUJ, has also come into action for ensuring the installing of its man as the VC of this proposed Cluster University.
Pertinent to mention that the Government Higher Education Department has announced to set up two Cluster Universities, one each in Jammu and Srinagar, under Rashtriya Ucchtar Shiksha Abhiyaan (RUSA). In Jammu, the Cluster University will comprise of five colleges, GGM Science College, MAM College, Govt BEd College, SPMR College of Commerce and GCW Gandhi Nagar.
According to the sources, the ruling coalition partner BJP is in hurry to start the proposed Cluster University as well as IIT here as early as possible for face saving on view of prevailing resentment of Jammu people over shifting of AIIMS to Kashmir.
