Couple of reasons suggests involvement of militants in attacks on cellular companies | | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 3: The separatist leaders maybe absolving the militants from the attacks carried out on the cell companies in the Kashmir valley over the past one week or so. However, there are at least two reasons which suggest that militants are behind these attacks at least in the Sopore area. Like the other parts of the Kashmir valley the cellular companies other than Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have distributed SIM cards like apples in the Sopore area. Many of the SIM cards are being used by the militants and it is here that the trouble has begun. "The SIM cards have been issued without proper verification by the private cellular companies. This has resulted into a situation where the SIM cards have landed into the hands of the militants. The militants would flash the messages on the mobile phones and then carry out the attacks on police and security forces," said sources. Sources said that following the directives from Home Ministry to the cellular companies to check the antecedents of people using the SIM cards, the cellular companies started to carry out the verification process. Once the process of verification got started the militants felt 'frustrated' and decided to find soft targets for carrying out their activities. "The militants started attacking the showrooms of the cellular companies so that the message is loud and clear. Killing of an employee of BSNL franchisee at Sopore and a mobile tower landlord sent shivers down the spine of the people associated with the recharge business not only in North Kashmir, but in other parts of the valley," said sources. The sources said that there is yet another dimension to the whole story of attacks on the cellular companies in the North Kashmir. This dimension is related to the passing on the information to the security forces about the presence of militants in the Sopore and the nearby areas of the Baramulla district. "Many girls in the North Kashmir are acting as conduit for the security agencies. These girls have been provided SIM cards so that they could pass on the information about the movement of militants to the security agencies. A top militant commander got trapped after he fell in love with a girl who later turned out to be an informer for the security forces," said sources. Sources said that attacks on the cellular companies would mean disruption in the services thus hampering the information being provided by the conduits to the security forces with respect to militants and their movement. In such a situation it is quite that the girls acting as conduits for the security forces would surrender their SIM cards thus providing free space to the militants to carry out their activities. |
