Oil depots to be shifted from Jammu railway station | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 3: In a bid to ensure foolproof safety in and around Jammu Railway Station, the oil depots of different oil companies will soon be relocated to some other nearby place adjoining Jammu city. According to sources, the Divisional Regional Manager (DRM) of Ferozepur Division, Anuj Prakash who was on a visit to Jammu has asked the district administration to identify and provide land for setting up new oil depots. It is pertinent to mention here that the fire safety experts from time to time have pointed out that an oil depot in close proximity of a sensitive place like Railway Station is an open invitation for the occurrence of a mishap at any time. During his visit, the DRM Ferozepur Division, Prakash met with the District Development Commissioner Jammu and the officials of the oil companies to explore the possibilities of shifting the oil depots from Jammu Railway Station and at the same time finalizing the modalities for setting up the oil depots at a new site. On the occasion, Working Director of Railway Board Rashmi Choudhary and other senior officers of the Railway Ministry were also present. Sources while quoting Prakash informed that he admitted the lapse of not providing Jammu Railway Station the much necessary facilities to upgrade it to the level of a Model Railway Station. He said that till date the Jammu Railway Station was denied the required facilities to make it a Model Railway Station but he assure that now the things will move in the right direction as the Railway Ministry has given its nod to develop the Jammu Railway Station as a Model Railway Station for which the necessary work will soon be commenced. DRM further divulged that the work on installing escalator at Jammu Railway Station will also be taken up in the current financial year. Referring to the double tracking between Jammu and Jallandhar Railway Stations, the DRM said that presently the commuters are facing lot of hardships due to the non availability of double track at five section on this route. However, this problem will be addressed in the near future as the DRM revealed that the Railway Ministry has sanctioned the requisite funds in order to ensure complete and timely double tracking between Jammu and Jallandhar adding that the work on two sections will be started initially and it will be completed under the current financial year itself. On the other hand, the DRM remained non-committal viz-a-viz adding more platforms at Jammu Railway Station, introduction of Shatabdi Express Train between Jammu and New Delhi and sanctioning a Rail Zone for Jammu since he said that as of now no decision has been taken to augment the strength of platforms at Jammu Railway Station but a fresh proposal in this regard will be resent to the Ministry. As far as setting up a Railway Zone in Jammu and introduction of Shatabdi Train, the DRM out rightly ruled out any such possibility. |
