2,500 telecom tower sites impacted in J&K, says telecom body | | | Agencies
NEW DELHI, June 3: Telecom lobby group Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) estimates that around 2,500 towers have been affected due to terrorism in the J&K region with retail outlets remaining closed in many parts of Sopore, Baramulla and Srinagar, but expects normalcy to return soon after police protection was provided. "As per our estimates, about 2,500 towers have been affected due to these incidents which have been focused primarily in the Sopore and Baramulla areas," COAI director general Rajan S Mathews said. He however added that as of Wednesday, many of the cell towers are coming back due to the police protection being provided at critical areas. he expects the problem to be resolved in the next few days and normalcy to return to telecom services in the area by the end of the week. |
