Early Times Report Jammu, June 7: In sweltering heat, the people of Jammu and its adjoining areas were subjected to eight hours of power curtailment on sunday- three hours more than the declared five hours cut announced by the PDD authorities. Source informed Early Times that two days ago, the PDD had announced to carry out rectification of hotspots, routine preventive maintenance and replacement of defective disc insulators in 220/132/33 KV Grid Station Barn, due to which the power supply to Grid Station Canal, was to remain affected on June 7, from 6 a.m. to 11 am but due to lack of coordination within the department, the officials of Grid Station Canal have 2- 3 hours additional cut from the one announced, adding, "Despite restoration power supply at 12 pm, from Grid Station Barn, Jammuites have been forced to bear additional power cuts from two to three hours", he said. "Owing to technical snag, the areas including Bakshi Nagar, Janipur, Bhori,Talab Tilo, Marh, Balicharana, Chatta, Warehouse were affected forcing people to gross inconvenience on hot sunday ", he said. He further said that despite restoration of power in Jammu city, the power in Janipur is still not restored. Ved Mahajan, shopkeeper of Warehouse said that in the name of preventive maintenance and replacement of defective disc insulators, the PDD hides its incompetency this is done time and again in Jammu division, adding, "If the department is sincere to give uninterrupted electricity then all the work of maintenance and rectification should not be done when mercury at its peak level", he said. He further said that one hand, the PDD t has been arbitrarily increasing the charges electricity and in return of which it is imposing daily 10-12 hours curtailment. Executive Engineer, Mohammed Shadiq Choudhary when contacted said that the power supply was affected in Jammu and its adjoining due to technical snag in Grid Station, Barn but it was restored at 12 pm. |
