Early Times Report
Kishtwar, June 7: Exposing the tall claims of the government, the death of 35 year old women due to non availability of doctors at Community Health Center (CHC) at Nawapachi Marwah sparked massive protest in one of the most backward areas of the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
As per the details available with "Early Times", 35 year old women identified as Rehamta Begum wife of Abdul Rashid Sheikh resident of Chenger Marwah after falling ill was brought by her relatives at Community Health Center Nawapanchi and died soon as no doctor was available at CHC Nawapachi. As soon as the news of death of Rehamta Begum spread in Nawapachi and its adjoining areas, large number of people assembled outside CHC Nawapachi and held strong protest against government and demanded action against the doctors and paramedical staff who were absent from their duties. The protestor also assailed sitting MLA and MoS Sunil Sharma for his failure in addressing the genuine problem of the area, particularly his failure in posting the doctors at Marwah.
"People of Marwah have voted for change in favour of BJP--- though the change took place at political front, but on ground nothing has changed and people of Marwah continue to suffer like they were suffering earlier" protestors informed Early Times on phone.
The protestors said that even no medicine was available at CHC Nawapachi which is in shambles and added that despite repeated request to administration and also to various political leadership, nothing was done. They said similar condition prevailed at adjoining Warwan and Dachhan areas of Kishtwar District, where non availability of roads is also a major cause of concern as people cannot rush the patients to District Hospital Kishtwar. The agitating people urged the government to look into the matter and take some serious steps towards addressing the genuine demands of the people and threatened agitation if nothing concrete was done soon.
The protest which continued for more than one hour was pacified with the intervention of Tehsildar Marwah who took up the issue with District administration and assured the agitating people that their genuine demands will be looked into, beside also assured action against absentees' doctors and paramedical staff.
It is pertinent to mention that even after 68 years of independence, Marwah area of Kishtwar District is still disconnected with the rest of the state since last seven months due to blockade of road that passes through high mountain ranges that remain covered with heavy snowfall. The area also lacks electricity and telecommunication network and the area is connected with rest of the state either with satellite STD connectivity or through police wireless network.
