Early Times Report
Jammu, June 7: Anticipating strong action from the Jammu and Kashmir Health Department, 13 out 67 absentee doctors from Jammu division have reportedly rejoined their services and while 54 absentee doctors have been recommended for termination form the service.
Reliable Sources in Health department informed Early Times that the Health Department had served repeated notices to 300 doctors, who were absent from their duties and mostly specialists and super specialists, from the Directorate of Health Services Kashmir, the Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar and SKIMS Soura have been working outside the state or abroad.
Sources also stated that though 13 out of 67 doctors from Jammu province have rejoined their services, most of the doctors are unwilling to come back. Now the health department recommended names of 54 absentee doctors for final call on termination of their services.
"Those doctors have not reported to the department, after serving notices to them and are doing private practices in nursing homes and hospitals outside the State or in foreign countries, " they claimed and adding that while some doctors have managed to get leaves even while serving abroad, they have drawn their salaries from government exchequer without any hurdle.
Sources further said that while state hospitals are facing shortage of doctors and majority of district hospitals are being run with pressing scarcity of doctors putting patient care to complete jeopardy, these doctors have shifted to greener pastures after studying in colleges of the state at the cost of public exchequer.
Commissioner, Secretary for Health and Medical Education Department MK Bhandari and Director Health Service Jammu, Dr. Baljeet Pathania could not be contacted despite repeated attempts.
