BOSE forgets 10th, 12th results of Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar; puts students' career in trouble | State plays deaf, dumb! | | Syed Junaid Hashmi
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 7: With state government playing deaf and dumb, Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has virtually ruined future of several hundred students who appeared in board examinations from the areas bracketed as winter zone of Jammu region. Education Minister Nayeem Akhter who has since day 1 talked of streamlining the system is yet to even primary level questions to the board officials with regard to their functioning. Examinations were held in the month of March for both Classes 10th and 12th for all the schools falling under the winter zone along with those in summer zone of Jammu region. However, results for the summer zone schools were declared on May 20 for 12th class and May 26 for 10th class but the board is yet to even announce a date for declaration of the result of winter zone schools. Winter zone in Jammu region essentially includes districts of Doda, Ramban, Kishtwar, some schools of Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch. This includes both high and higher secondary schools. These have been placed in the winter zone category but the examinations are held in the month of March. Those behind this unique division of students of one region into winter and summer zone had argued that the students falling in winter zone enjoy two months winter break prior to examinations. While those in the summer zone get two month break immediately after being enrolled in classes 10th and 12th in the months of May, June or June, July. They had said that it would be better to hold separate examinations due to climatic variations. BOSE officials immediately latched onto the idea and that too without even giving it a second thought. Educationists in Doda region are of the opinion that zones were divided without proper application of mind. Now that results of summer zone have been declared, hundreds of students in six districts are waiting for results to be declared. Most of the competent authorities have finished the entrance examinations and results are likely to be declared within week's time. College admissions have started in the summer zone while the winter zone students are waiting for their results. Jammu University has been issuing threats to the college principals of winter zone colleges to start semester system without even understanding that they are yet to start admissions. From Joint Secretary-cum-Secretary-cum-Chairman Veena Pandita to Education Minister Nayeem Akhter, none could be approached for comments for the obvious reasons that either their mobiles were switched off or they were not reachable or they were in some important meeting and could not pick up the call. Credible sources told Early Times that following on the footsteps of ex-Chief Minister Omar Abdullah who would off and on issue credibility certificates to newspapers and media organisations, the minister has been dismissing the news reports critical of his functioning as paid propaganda of 'frustrated political workers' and 'politician Journalists' while applauding allegedly guilty officials. None needs to talk about disaster that National Conference (NC) faced under Omar Abdullah and intellectuals do agree that he should have heeded to news reports, ordered inquiries and then issued credibility certificates, which he never did. Education Minister Nayeem Akhtar, a man known for his honesty and intellect, should not let this opportunity to stem the rot go waste. Educationists all over the state agree that JKBOSE should be the beginning. |
