More green flags would flutter in Kashmir, threatens legislator Rashid
Celebrates JK's flag day, 'insults' RSS founder; BJP silent

Early Times Report

Jammu, June 7: The independent MLA Abdul Rashid Sheikh on Sunday took on the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) head on and declared the dream of the RSS founder Shyama Prasad Mukherjee of one country, one constitution and one flag won't work in Jammu and Kashmir. He threatened that more green flags (Pakistan flags) would be waved in Kashmir if people are not allowed to hoist the state flag.
The MLA Langate who is known for his notorious activities stirred the hornet's nest by celebrating JK's flag day and hinted at supporting the people who raise Pakistan flags. "We are not begging before Delhi. If you won't honour this flag of ours, people here will have no option but to wave green flags," he said.
Rashid, who has taken an oath to safeguard sovereignty and integrity of India, even challenged JK's accession with India and termed it conditional. "If the Article goes, so will go the state's accession with India. Article 370 acts as a bridge and its threads hold Jammu and Kashmir with India," he added.
Rashid's publicity stunt has annoyed the nationalist forces and they are questioning the silence of the state and central governments. "He (Rashid) should be booked for sedition for provoking the separatists to raise Pakistan flags and for preaching secessionism. If Masrat Alam could be booked under PSA why can't Rashid be booked under the same Act?," asked a RSS leader.
He said that Rashid has "insulted" the RSS founder Shyama Prakash Mukherjee and he would get a befitting reply. "Party has taken a serious note of his utterances and matter would be taken at the highest level," the leader added.
Surprisingly, none of the BJP leaders objected to Rashid challenging the JK's accession with India and insulting the RSS founder. "It seems BJP leaders in JK are so busy in reaping the fruits of power they are least bothered about what is happening around them," said a critic.
Rashid played a communal card by alleging the government is conspiring to appoint non-locals and non-Muslims to key posts in the state administration. "It's astounding that a law maker and a legislator has made such an irresponsible statement which has got the potential of polarizing the environment in the state," the critic added.
He said Rashid should be asked to prove his allegation otherwise stern action should be taken against him.
Sources said that Rashid staged the flag drama in Srinagar on Sunday at the behest of the National Conference. "Rashid never celebrated the flag day when Omar Abdullah was in power. Rashid staged the drama to appease Omar as National Conference has always supported him," claimed a source.
Rashid, who claims to be an Engineer, was arrested in the 2002 in a militancy related case and released on pay roll later. "In 2009 Rajya Sabha elections, Er Rashid cast his vote in the favour of the NC candidate after he met the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah,' said a source.
