Protests erupt as pregnant woman dies due to non-availability of doctors in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, June 7: A pregnant woman died allegedly due to non-availability of doctors at a government hospital in Handwara in north Kashmir district of Kupwara. As the news of the incident which took place in Sub District Hospital (SDH) Sogam spread in Handwara, instant protests erupted. Demanding action against the hospital staff and doctors, scores of protestors took to the streets outside the SDH Sogam in Kupwara. Angered by the incidents, the protestors raised anti-hospital administrations slogans while the family of the deceased refused to perform the last rights till the guilty were punished. Rubeena died at Sub District hospital, Sogam, after she delivered a baby at the hospital last night as there were allegedly no doctors available. The deceased's family alleged that the patient was left unattended after she delivered. She was fine after delivery. But she was left unattended as all the doctors left for their homes with no one to attend to her, they said. Strict action should be taken against the doctors and paramedical staff so that this incident is not repeated in the future. We want justice and until we get it, we will not perform her last rites, they added. Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kupwara has reached the hospital along with officers of the district administration to pacify the protesters. |
