Baltal turns into mini India as pilgrims arrive for Amarnath yatra | | | Early Times Report
baltal, July 1:The Baltal base camp turned into a mini India as pilgrims from different parts of the country arrive here to undertake yatra to the holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas to have darshan of self made Ice-Shivlingam. Though the 59-day-long yatra will commence from tomorrow, a large number of pilgrims have already reached the camp during the past few days. Hundreds of colourful tents have been erected as authorities have made elaborate arrangements for the pilgrims, undertaking the yatra through this 16-km-long shortest track. Young pilgrims prefer this track as it takes just one day to have darshan of the Ice-Shivlingam in the cave shrine, situated at about 13,500 feet above sea level, and return back to base camp. However, some prefer to return the next morning. The authorities have set up Access Control Gate (ACG) and only registered yatris, having proper permit will be allowed to go beyond that point. The yatris will be allowed only on particular date he or she has registered for undertaking the pilgrimage, officials said. The authorities have registered about 3,000 dandi wallas, labourers and others for providing assistance to yatris on this track. Interestingly most of the service providers are from the minority community. Only registered dandi wallas and labourers would be allowed to operate, they said. They said 8,800 ponies have been duly registered out of a total of 13,000 which are allowed to operate on this and the traditional Pahalgam routes |
