Government re-visits Recruitment Policy, drops clause of contractual services | SSB asked to fill 7,000 posts in 4 months | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 1: After facing criticism from different quarters and also due to the raising of objections by Governor Narendra Nath Vohra the state government has re-visited the recruitment policy announced by it earlier. Addressing a press conference, Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar who is also the government spokesman said that according to the new recruitment policy the appointed persons would be treated as regular employees from the date of joining. He said the newly appointed persons would not be entitled to allowances and perks during the first five years of their service. "The humanitarian aspect of the recruitment policy was re-visited by the state government since there was resistance from civil society groups and other stake holders. The appointment of the people who would be appointed under the new recruitment policy would be regular. However, these people would have to work on probation for first five years," said Naeem. The government spokesman said that in their first five years of service the appointees would be given the pay band with the least grade pay. He said that the government has asked Services Selection Board (SSB) to fill 7,000 posts in the non-gazetted cadre over the next four months adding that more members would be added to SSB. "The state government is committed to upholding the importance of SSB and we are going to strengthen the SSB by giving it more members. At the district level the SSB would be headed by a member. We are also committed to making the Public Service Commission a vibrant body and this process too would be completed very soon," said Naeem. The government spokesman said that PSC is without any member since November 2014 adding that the government would very soon nominate nine members to the Commission. He acknowledged the fact that 1,700 posts of college lecturers, 600 posts of lecturers in school education and 400 posts of doctors are lying vacant due to the non-functioning of PSC in Jammu & Kashmir. "There are some employees whose confirmation is pending due to the non-placement of the PSC and its members. We have not been able to hold the civil services examination since the Commission is not functional. Since the Governor has raised objections over certain nominations we are in process of setting the things right and hopefully everything would be fine soon," said Naeem. |
