Forced retirement of 63 officials: Much ado about nothing! | List brings SVO role under scanner | | Abodh Sharma Early Times Report Jammu, July 1: The dishonorable exit of 63 government officials by the BJP-PDP coalition government, more than hundred days after it assumed offices riding crest of expectations has proved to be much ado about nothing as the list that has been notified by the government after long wait does not include many a notorious officers who have been named in infamous scams and organized land grabbing besides keeping disproportionate assets. Sources in the government divulge that many an officers who should have been in the list have escaped action, thanks to their sympathizers and patrons in high chairs of the state administration. "There have been vilification campaigns against some, while others have been targeted by orchestrated conspiracies, yet many who have amassed huge wealth and their unholy nexus with politicians is an open secret have been spared" said a senior officer of the state government. The most hilarious aspect of the notorious list has been the inclusion of just four lower rung officials of police including and inspector, an ASI and two head constables. It has raised serious questions about the working of the police organization including its vigilance wing which has been clearly biased while probing cases against their fellow men. It is astounding that many police officers whose involvement in organized crime, land grabbing and taking graft is well known do not appear on the list. A director of the SVO who recently superannuated has been alleged to have closed cases against several accused police officers for camaraderie and other reasons and in several such cases, the state vigilance commission even censured him severely. "The indictment of one SHO and three lower officials of Police casts a serious aspersion on the conduct of police when it comes to probing their own officials" said a retired government servant demanding to devise another mechanism to probe cases against policemen. However, while the list notified by the government includes officials and the officers who have several cases of corruption and DA against them, many believe that officers who might not be corrupt, but are non performers should also be tagged as dead wood as they sit over the files and are responsible for poor governance. |
