Committed PDP exposes BJP's double-speak | J&K's special status | | Early Times Report jammu, July 1: As was expected, PDP ideologue, Education Minister and spokesperson of the coalition government and state cabinet Naeem Akhtar took no time to expose the "confused, ambivalent, misleading and unscrupulous" BJP and its double-speak and declared that nobody would be allowed to dilute the state's special status being enjoyed by it under Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. "Agenda of Alliance has been finalized at the highest level and the same has been approved by the Prime Minister. If any comment about scrapping the special status of Jammu and Kashmir is made by someone, we take it as the personal opinion of that person. It cannot affect the understanding between the coalition partners and the common minimum programme," he said, adding that "Article 370 is non- negotiable". His unambiguous statement came a day after MoS in the PMO Jitendra Singh pretended that the BJP was committed to the ideology of the Jan Sangh founder, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee. "There is no compromise on Dr Shyama Prasad Mookerjee's ideology and that, this message should go out loud and clear. Jammu & Kashmir is a sensitive 'nerve centre' for BJP Karyakartas (workers) across the country…It is Jammu & Kashmir which inspired Shyama Prasad Mookerjee's nationalist struggle for which he also laid down his life on the soil of Jammu & Kashmir. The ideological linkage of Jammu & Kashmir is therefore as crucial for the BJP cadre outside Jammu & Kashmir as it is for the organization within Jammu & Kashmir," he had said while addressing a handful of RSS supporters in New Delhi. What Singh said was inconsistent with what the agenda of alliance provides for. Naeem Akhtar not only snubbed Jitendra Singh, but also gave everyone to understand that what Singh said was his personal view and that the Prime Minister and BJP as an organization were with the PDP as far as their stand on special status of Jammu & Kashmir was concerned. Akhtar was absolutely right when he said what he said while tearing into Jitendra Singh and exposing him and others of his ilk. That Akhtar only told the truth and nothing else but the truth could be seen from what the agenda of alliance says in this regard. The agenda of alliance, inter-alia, says that "while recognizing the different positions and appreciating the perceptions BJP and PDP have on the constitutional status of Jammu & Kashmir considering the political and legislative realities, the present position will be maintained on all the constitutional provisions pertaining to Jammu & Kashmir, including the special status in the Constitution of India". Which means the BJP abandoned the ideology of Mookerjee even before forming coalition government with the PDP in Jammu & Kashmir. It is pertinent to mention here that it was none other than the RSS-plant in the BJP Ram Madhav who along with PDP leaders like Haseeb Drabu, formulated the agenda of alliance, which was duly approved by the RSS, BJP national president Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Not just this, the Prime Minister, the BJP national president and Ram Madhav not once but a number of times declared that the BJP was committed to implementing the agenda of alliance "in letter and spirit" - declarations which didn't go well with the patriotic people of the state in general and Jammu region and Ladakh in particular. For, they contemptuously dismiss the agenda of alliance as "agenda of subversion" and a "new charter of bondage". The point is that Singh willfully said what he said about Mookerjee knowing it full well that the RSS and the BJP had deviated from the path and that they were interested more in power than in the ideology of Mookerjee. No wonder he gave a long stick to Akhtar to beat him and others of his ilk in the party and the RSS who make statements which go beyond the confines of the agenda of alliance. It must remain a matter of shame for those in the BJP who discarded the ideology of Mookerjee for the sake of power and continue to invoke Mookerjee to mollify the outraged BJP and RSS cadres. |
