SA discover 2 new militant circuits | 'Militancy on rise in Kashmir' | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 1: Even as a picture of newly recruited militants in Kashmir has gone viral on social networking websites, the security agencies claimed to have discovered two new militant circuits of being active in the valley. Officials said, militants are focusing on two axes-Tral-Batapora-Panjgaon-Yaripora-in South Kashmir, and Palhalan to Sopore in North Kashmir. The worrisome aspect, as per the officials, is that in both the axes the leadership is completely in the hands of Kashmiri boys, who have joined the ranks of militancy recently. Security analysts said that local recruitment, which had come down, has picked up suddenly since January 2015 with reports suggesting that "nearly 50 boys have joined militant groups." The worrying trend, according to officials, is that the difference between today's militancy and that of early 1990s is that the ideological conviction of the present lot of militants is far more superior than that of the militant groups during the early days. Alarmed by reports of "growing radicalisation of Kashmiri youth", the government would soon chalk out a plan to "thwart the designs of terror groups like ISIS to swell their ranks by indoctrinating them to choose the path of militancy." A wire agency reported that in internal communication, Home Secretary L C Goyal has entrusted this task to Special Secretary (Internal Security) Ashok Prasad, who has served as Director General of Police in the state. The Home Secretary has asked for an urgent plan to "prevent such radicalisation in the state." The move comes after central security agencies have red flagged "increasing radicalisation of the youth. While the government is finalizing a strategy to counter the radicalization, a photo of militants having gone viral on social media including Facebook has put the security agencies on tenterhooks. The photo of 15 militants, all young and wearing Army uniforms, is believed to have taken in some forest. A police official said they have identified almost all the militants visible in the photograph. Those identified include Naseer Ahmed Pandit and his three associates Bilal Ahmed Bhat, Tariq Ahmed Pandit and Afaq Ahmed Bhat, all residents of Karimabad Pulwama. HM Divisional Commander for South Kashmir Burhan Ahmed Wani, a resident of Sahrifabad Tral town has also been spotted by the security agencies in these photographs, a police official said. Police believe that the pictures popped up from the account of one 'Lovers of Rizwan Bhai' on Facebook and spread like wildfire. "We are keeping track of people who have been sharing or liking these pictures and their credentials will be verified," the official said. |
