Crusade against corruption raises questions | Who can bring corrupt law makers to justice? | | ET Report jammu, July 13: The crusade of the state government against corruption evoked good response from various quarters but some questions remain unanswered. Around sixty employees of the State Government were shown the door after being declared deadwood. They were given three months salary and told in clear terms that the state government did not need their services. But why should the fight against corruption be confined to government employees only. There are other places besides civil secretariat and government offices where corruption is rampant. According to confirmed reports, thirty-seven appointments made in the Legislative Assembly are illegal. These appointments have been made by successive Speakers of the House without following the proper procedure. Interestingly laws governing recruitment are made by the Legislative Assembly and when the head of the House himself throws these rules to winds, the lawlessness at other places can only be imagined. The news about these appointments came into public domain when the High Court directed the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) to probe the appointments. The SVO had tried to hush up the case by declaring the case as closed. Even a closure report was filed but the court did not allow it and the SVO had to do some investigation. The system stands totally exposed. If SVO can be strangled by the powerful politicians what happens to the crusade against corruption? |
