Akshay Azad Early Times Report jammu, July 13: The state government has reportedly put the recommendations of cancelling Permanent Resident Certificates (PRCs) of over 150 outsiders into cold storage, reportedly due to pressure exerted by the strong lobby of these non local businessmen. Sources informed Early Times that Jammu and Kashmir Revenue department had recommended cancellation of PRCs of over 150 people, who were actually non state subjects and had obtained certificate by illegal means. "On the instructions of Revenue Minister, the order of cancellation was finalized by Revenue department but at the eleventh hour, the General Administrative Department (GAD) shelved the order", sources said. They further informed that on the instructions of Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Chief Secretary directed GAD to withhold the order. Sources further informed that names of several businessmen and affluent families were in the list. "If the order of Revenue department is implemented, the properties of all those whose PRC are cancelled, will be confiscated", sources said, adding that the property of the fake PRC owners, runs into several hundred Crores. Sources further informed that during the previous government's tenure, a list of fake PRC holders was also finalized and the people in the list had exerted pressure on the officials by offering huge money, but the official in turn had refused to accept their proposal. "The people in the list were so powerful that former Chief Minister had himself called for staying of the list", sources said, adding that it was the same lobby, which has been exerting pressured on the government. Majority of the people, whose names are recommended for cancellation are settled in Jammu, sources said and are also financers of some leaders, who have been working overnight to stay the list. |
