Drabu's draft of financial package finds no buyers
7/14/2015 12:22:19 AM
Early Times Report
jammu, July 13: The Modi government is reportedly not satisfied with the financial package drafted by J&K Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu and has termed it 'myopic'.
"The Finance Minister was just concentrating on the Rs 44,000 crore package to address the immediate needs of the flood affected people. There was no long term planning and consideration of the other regions of the state. It was too much myopic and did not address the concerns of the PM for equitable development," said a senior official.
According to sources, the package drafted by Drabu was just to settle political point with the outgoing Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and concentrate on Kashmir region, than the equitable development.
Sources said since Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed does not have adequate knowledge of the finance, he had given a freehand to Drabu.
"The CM himself was unhappy and apparently shocked when the senior officials told him that package is not up to the mark and he was told that now onwards the Centre will itself draft and approve it," said the official.
It is for this reason, that Centre sent a team of top officials from various ministries to understand, analyse the economic problem and also draft the plan, which will also include the package for the flood affected people.
According to the sources, the Centre has now decided to approve and plan the finances by sending its own officials as the experience of the working with Drabu is not up to the mark, rather it is way ward and too much shallow without much details and the vision.
"The Modi government is not adverse to spending on J&K but it wants everything to be accountable and for long term basis. It is for this reason, they worked on this plan for quite some time and drafted with a vision," said the official.
