Early Times Report

Kathua, July 13: Amid tall claims of administration and despite due visits of JK state Cabinet Ministers namely Dy CM Dr Nirmal Singh, Sukhnandan Choudhary and Ch Lal Singh to review the facilities for Amar Nath Pilgrims at Lakhanpur as thousands of pilgrims who got stranded at Lakhanpur cry for basic facility at Lakhanpur and protested against state government.
Pertinent to mention that thousands of pilgrims got stranded after recent rains have forced authorities to suspend the 12th and 13th batch of yatra from Jammu in view of the closure of Jammu- Srinagar highway which has witnessed landslides at various places.
During the protest Santosh Kumari, a pilgrim from Madhya Pradesh, alleged that the state government ignored the Amarnath pilgrimage and said the pilgrims are just wandering to get drinking water, sanitary facility etc on the other hand the state government virtually has failed to provide basic facilities.
She said they came here with enthusiasm to visit Kashmir and holy cave shrine of Shri Amarnath but all dashed to grounds when they entered the state and were welcomed at the threshold of state by the miserable conditions of Yatries camp. Daring officials of the state administration about the fate of camps , she said, "Anybody from J&K government can fairly review the facilities being provided to Amarnath Pilgrims by visiting the camps."
Mahesh Kumar, from Utter Pradesh, said that no shed or waiting halls facility is being provided by state government even as precautions especially when it rains. He discarded all notions of Union and state government claiming to provide due facilities to pilgrims.
Suresh Banjerjee from Kolkata had similar views and he blamed on state government for not providing appropriate facilities. He also said many times the costly assets of yatries including cell phones have been reported stolen due lack of security arrangements at Lakhanpur but none cares.
When asked about lack of facilities for Shri Amarnath pilgrims, Avtar Singh, Tehsildhar Kathua evaded a direct reply and defended in a veiled manner saying the matter has been taken to higher authority and administration and ensured things to be bettered very soon.
