Early Times Report

BANIHAL, July 13: After the improvement in inclement weather conditions, the men on job managed to clear the landslides and slush on highway the vehicular movement on Jammu Srinagar National Highway (NH-1A) was resumed for usual traffic this morning after 27 hours blockade.
This not only has given a sigh of relief to the stranded passengers but also to the men on job who were entrusted to clear the debris of landslide and slush which had forced the blockade for the almost 27 hrs.
Local reports said that the after the closer of Jammu Srinagar highway on Sunday morning due to landslides at several places along highway the normal traffic was suspended on this ever busy highway and hundreds of vehicles including 350 vehicles of Amarnath pilgrism also got stranded.
"On Monday morning after weather got improved a bit the Border Road Organization(BRO) men who were on job cleared the slides mainly at Gangroo-Ramsoo and other places making the road fit for traffic, the traffic was allowed to move further, reports said.
"The traffic police after receiving the clearance of road by BRO, immediately allowed the stranded vehicles on priority bases including the Amarnath pilgrims of both sides on highway, police sources said. However the haste of reaching to their destinations made it difficult for traffic police to handle and regulate the traffic due to lack of due driving sense as at many places particularly at bottleneck the people had made gridlock of vehicles in a bid to go ahead of the other vehicle, reports said adding, however the traffic police after some time managed to make the smooth flow of traffic on national highway and cleared stranded vehicles at Banihal, Ramsoo, Ramban, Chanderkote, Batote, Kud and Qaziqund.
Meanwhile stranded passengers and Shri Amarnath pilgrims have taken a sigh of relief after they were allowed towards their destination after 27 hours long stay along the highway.
When contacted DySP Traffic National Highway Banihal said that the vehicular movement of traffic on highway for both sides is allowed and traffic is smoothly plying. He said that a little bit of traffic congestion is reported at Banihal market due to huge rush of local traffic in the market.
Pertinent to mention here that the weather in district Ramban was cloudy on whole day but it didn't rain at all which made BRO men to clear highway near Gangroo Ramsoo land slide.
