JKSSB yet to formulate syllabus for ATOs | | | Bijay Charak Early Times Reoprt Jammu, Aug 14: Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) is yet to formulate the syllabus for recruiting Assistant Tourist Officers (ATOs). An official of the Tourism Department said that due to shortage of tourist officers, one ATO is manning more than two districts. "How it is possible that one officer would look after more than one destination when the places are hundreds of kilometers distance from each other," he said. "At present the employees working in department have no professional qualification due to which the state has failed to formulate a plan for promotion of tourism," said the official. The state has 28 Tourism Development Authorities (TDAs), two Tourism departments and one Tourism Development Corporation. Three years ago, the previous National Conference-Congress coalition government had created posts of ATOs. "But because of the lackadaisical approach of JKSSB, the recruitment process is yet to take off," said an aspirant Naresh Kumar. He said hundreds of students pass out from four universities of the state, with many of them having degrees in tourism. "It seems the government is not interested to address the growing unemployment in the state," Kumar said. JKSSB chairperson Dev Lata was not available for comment. Its secretary S A Raina claimed that syllabus of ATO has been put on the board's website. |
