RSS finally finds farishte
Lucknow Meet
8/15/2015 12:12:19 AM

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 14: The so-called cultural organization RSS has finally discovered "farishte" (good humans/angels). The revelation to this effect was made by none other than Indersh Kumar, co-founder and Marg-darshak of the Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM), in Lucknow on August 9. The MRM was founded in 2002 by the RSS with a view to dispelling the impression that the "RSS was anti-Muslim and anti-Islam" and that the "RSS stood for Hindu Rashtra" Indersh Kumar had served as Prantiya Pracharak in Jammu & Kashmir for years and he visits the state quite frequently. He made the revelation that he finally discovered farishte after he, according to him, was told by the "people in the Utter Pradesh) government not to attend the programme" organized by the MRM.
By farishte Kumar meant those Muslims and Muslim ulemas who organized and attended the Lucknow meet. It was perhaps for the first time after 1925 that any senior RSS functionary made such a statement. The RSS was founded in 1925, the year in which Communist Party of India was also founded. It was a very significant statement in the sense that it indicated a radical change in the attitude of the RSS towards the Muslims. It is pertinent to mention here that no RSS leader before him had ever called any Hindu or a group of Hindus farishte. Here lies the significance of the statement that was made by Indersh Kumar.
It is pertinent to mention here that the MRM organized All-India Ulema meet at Lucknow on August 9 in which about 1200 Ulemas and Muslims participated. The theme of the meet was based on the slogan: "Dahshat, Danga, Nafrat, Himsa -- Bharat Chhodo, Bharat Chhodo". Speaking at the conference, Indresh Kumar not only called the Ulemas and Muslims farishte, but also said that certain political party (in this case perhaps Samajwadi Party) believes that "Muslims are its vote bank". He also accused the "secular" outfits of creating ill-will between the RSS and the Muslims for vote-bank politics and dividing the society on religious lines. Reports from Lucknow also suggested that Indersh Kumar announced in the meet that "serious efforts would be made to educate everyone in the country about the good teachings of Islam and their contribution to Indian culture, Indian civilization and Indian society".
Earlier on August 3 and 4, the RSS-affiliated India Foundation had organized the fourth Young Thinkers Meet at Panchmarhi in Madhya Pradesh, where separatists like Sajad Lone also spoke. The most significant aspect of the whole meet was the interest with which senior RSS functionaries listened to him. They included Dattatreya Hosabale and Krishan Gopal and RSS ideologue and BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav. They were highly impressed with what Sajad Lone said during the meet where, according to MJ Akbar, BJP MP and national spokesperson, "contentious waters of Islamism, Jihad and Indian Muslims" were also discussed. These RSS leaders got overwhelmed as if they listened to "almighty Allah".
The Panchmari meet and the Lucknow meet constitute a very important chapter in the history of the RSS and the reports on what transpired during these two meetings held within a short span of a week or so were self-revealing. These two meetings and the manner in which the BJP accepted the advice of Hina Bhat that the BJP should not rake up Article 370 during the election campaign in Jammu & Kashmir should establish that the RSS-BJP combine has decided to tread a "secular" path for reasons not really difficult to fathom.
