Much to embarrassment of security agencies Pakistani flags waved across Kashmir | Restrictions throw life out of gear in downtown areas | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Aug 14: Despite enforcement of restrictions and putting in place stringent security measures green Pakistani flags were either erected or displayed by groups of people in the summer capital of the state and other parts of Kashmir valley. Since early morning reports were received that Pakistani flags have been erected or displayed in Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir. In the Srinagar city Pakistani flags were displayed or erected in areas like Nowshera, Soura, Elahi Bagh, Buchpora while as these flags were also displayed in other districts of Kashmir. In the Nowshera area Pakistani flag could be seen erected atop a mobile tower and the same caught the attention of people passing by. Reports of erection of Pakistani flag were also reported from the Elahi Bagh area of the summer capital. Here too the people could be seen noticing the Pakistani flag. In the Buchpora locality of the summer capital activists of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) led by its Patron Syed Asiya Andrabi unfurled the Pakistani flag and saluted the flag. The DeM activists also sang Pakistani national anthem and they were also joined by some of the locals of Buchpora and adjacent areas. In the commercially important Regal Chowk of Srinagar city, human rights activist and separatist leader Mohammad Ahsan Untoo appeared on the main road and distributed sweets among the people passing by. Untoo was also carrying small Pakistani flags and he also distributed them among the people who were present there. Reports of waving or displaying of Pakistani flag were also received from the Khudwani area of South Kashmir's Anantnag district. The people who displayed the Pakistani flag also raised slogans in support of Pakistan. Pakistani flags were also waved in some of the villages of Tral area in Pulwama district. Flags were also waved in some of the villages falling near to Pulwama town. From North Kashmir reports of waving of Pakistani flags were reported from some of the areas of Bandipora district. Unconfirmed reports said that Pakistani flags were also waved in the Hajin village of this North Kashmir district. It would be in place to mention here that authorities had put in place restrictions in areas of downtown Srinagar and Maisuma in order to waving of Pakistani flags. Since early morning police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were deployed in strength so as to thwart pro-Pakistan rally and waving of Pakistani flags. Authorities had imposed stern restrictions in areas falling under the police stations of Khanyar, Rainawari, Maharaj Gunj, Safa Kadal and Nowhatta in downtown Srinagar and Maisuma police station in uptown Srinagar. Due to the enforcement of restrictions congregational Friday prayers could not be held in Jamia Masjid and other Masjids of downtown Srinagar. In the meantime, security has been beefed up across Kashmir especially Srinagar in order to avoid any untoward incident since the Independence Day is being celebrated in the state along with the other parts of country. Police and CRPF personnel are keeping a tight vigil on the situation with the Bakshi Stadium in summer capital virtually being sealed off by the authorities. |
