Early Times Report
Anantnag, Aug 14: The staff and security persons of district hospital Anantnag on Friday thrashed a man after he demanded medicine for his critically injured 5-year-old daughter. The incident angered other attendants who staged protests against the hospital administration.
Eyewitness said the child Sahila, daughter of Nisar Ahmad Malik, of Kapran, Verinag, had fallen from the second storey of her house and was brought to the hospital with critical injuries at around 4:00pm.
The doctors present in the causality ward of the hospital prescribed her some immediate medication before being referred to SKIMS Srinagar. "Doctors had prescribed some injections and other medicines to the injured girl, and when her father rushed to the drug counter to collect the medicine the staffers present their asked him to collect the medicine from the market as they were not available. This irritated the man and he argued with the hospital staff," the eyewitnesses said. The hospital security and staffers at drug counter got infuriated and pounced on the man, injuring his face, they said. Fearing trouble, two hospital security personnel and few staffers fled from the hospital. "The man was given first aid immediately," a hospital employee told Early Times.
He said the man's injured daughter was also referred to SKIMS for specialized treatment. A doctor posted in the hospital blamed the hospital administration for the mess. "See the situation. A 5-year-old girl was on the bed in a critical condition and doctors present there were treating her father," he said.
He said that since new Medical Superintendent has taken over, 'anarchy' is prevailing all around.
The Medical Superintendent Dr Majeed Mehrab did not return repeated calls from Early Times for his comment. Chief Medical officer Anantnag, Dr Fazil Kochak said, "I am not aware but I will look into the matter and those staffers responsible for the incident will be punished."
