Hizb's poster boy releases video, asks cops to hang up boots | | | Abdul Majid
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Aug 26: A young Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Muzaffar Wani, who is rapidly emerging as the face of new militancy in Kashmir, has released a maiden video and asked local policemen not to train their guns against the militants. In the 5-minute video which has gone viral on social networking sites, Burhan is seen in an army fatigue standing next to a copy of the Quran and an AK-47 rifle. Guarded by two armed militants, he says in the video, "Our policemen, despite being our own, have trained Indian gun against us…We appeal to them not to do so." Burhan also alleges that the cops harass families of the militants. "If militants want they could make families of the policemen unsafe. But our religion doesn't allow us to do so. We regard their families as our own. When there is an encounter, SPOs and constables get killed. They should understand that officers sacrifice them for their own promotions," he says. The Hizbul Mujahideen commander has also asked Kashmiri youth to join militancy. "We want to send a message to the people of Kashmir, especially youth that they should come and join us. If they can't join us, they should help us in whatever way they can," Burhan says. The video message by the 21-year-old commander, circulated mostly through WhatsApp, is seen as a departure by Kashmiri militants from the practice of sending statements to the media. This time militants have addressed people directly through the video message. Quoting the Quran, Burhan explains why they have become militants. "We have left our families…our mothers and sisters…so that the chastity of your mothers and sisters is safeguarded. We are here so that Khilafah is established in Kashmir." Burhan says religious preachers "should either preach truth or remain silent". "It is not sufficient to talk only about Haj, Roza and Zakat. Don't they see our Prophet participated in 80 wars? Why are they hiding it?" Referring to boys and girls who work as police informers, he says, "We are warning them. They should desist from it. They should boycott India and should not support it on any front". Burhan, who left home to join militant ranks five years ago, carries a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head. Meanwhile, a senior police official said the veracity of video was being ascertained. "We are yet to see it," he said. |
