Baramulla encounter claims 2 militants 8/26/2015 11:59:57 PM S.Tahir-Ul Haq Early Times Report BARAMULLA, Aug 26: Two unidentified militants have been killed in an encounter between security forces & militants in Baramulla district Wednesday. The operation was on till last reports came in. A police official told Early Times that the encounter began this morning in Bijhma area in Uri sector of Baramulla district after army launched an operation following inputs about the presence of three to four militants in the area. "Security forces laid cordon in Lachipora village of Bijhama Uri in Baramulla district. Where in yesterday there was a contact with a group of militants, said official. The exchange of fire started at around 7 AM in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, after which security forces launched a search operation in Qazinag Dhar area of Uri sector following information about presence of militants there, said official. He said as the army zeroed in on the hiding militants, they fired upon the forces and in the ensuing gun battle one militant has been killed. The official said the body of the slain militant has not been recovered yet, the official said, adding, the operation is underway. Without confirming the identity of the militant, army spokesperson said one AK-47 rifle was recovered from his possession. He said it was not immediately known whether this was an infiltration bid and added that the details will be known once the operation concludes. Meanwhile on Wednesday evening encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district in north Kashmir. Official sources said that the firing started between militants and security forces in Daniwar village of Rafiabad area on Wednesday evening. Sources said that one militant has been killed in Rafiabad area, 32 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) and Special Operation Group (SOG) are engaged in the encounter with the militants. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, north Kashmir range, Garib Dass said that, Earlier, the encounter broke out Wednesday morning at Kazinag Dhar area of Uri when a joint party of forces and SOG got engaged in a gunfight with 3- 4 heavily armed militants. One militant has been killed in an encounter between security forces and militants in Uri sector, while as on Wednesday evening encounter broke out between security forces and militants in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district.
