PDP Ministers facilitate construction of 'illegal' shopping complexes in summer capital | Guardians of law turn into 'violators' of law | | Jehangir Rashid Early Times Report srinagar, Aug 26: Some of the Ministers of State Government owing allegiance to Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are following the footsteps of Ministers of the previous coalition Government of National Conference- Congress since they are violating the municipal laws in the summer capital of the State. Both the Ministers who emerged victorious from two constituencies of Srinagar district are facilitating the 'illegal' construction of shopping complexes and malls in the Srinagar city. In fact one of these ministers recently inaugurated an 'illegal' shopping complex in the posh Jawahar Nagar area of the summer capital. Sources told Early Times that some influential people having close links to corridors of power especially to the two PDP ministers are enjoying like anything by resorting to violation of municipal laws. Inputs received reveal that these violations are going on without any stoppage in the Jawahar Nagar, Rajbagh, Karan Nagar and some other areas of Srinagar city. "After the September 2014 flood areas like Jawahar Nagar and Rajbagh have come up as complete commercial areas with residential houses found in less number as compared to the past. While some of the commercial complexes have already been commissioned, work is going on at full swing on other shopping malls and they too are all set to be commissioned soon," said sources. Sources said that it was at the behest of one the two ministers that an 'illegal' shed had come up during the preceding intervening night in the Sheikh Bagh area of the summer capital. Following apprehensions that the 'illegal' shed may be demolished the people who built the same dismantled it without any delay. "Some of the locals of Jawahar Nagar area had recently complained with former Commissioner of Srinagar Municipal Corporation that large scale violations are going on there. The Commissioner had told the locals that he cannot do anything since he has been directed to allow the construction of illegal complexes," said sources. Sources said that Commissioner SMC had made it clear to the group of locals that he has been asked by a senior minister of PDP not to create hindrances in construction of 'illegal' shopping malls or complexes. The minister is a founding member of PDP and as such he is taking undue advantage of his portfolio and position. "It takes months for a commoner to get permission from SMC but when it comes to an influential person all the laws are kept at bay. The so-called guardians of law trample over the rules and regulations while ensuring that their confidantes are allowed to raise construction of illegal complexes," said sources. Sources said that rampant corruption in SMC is making things easy for the violators of law who grease the palms of concerned officials and get their 'work' done. As such accountability and transparency as promised by Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has gone for a toss and there seems to be no rule of law in state as on date. |
