Farmers protest, alleging misuse of funds | | | Early Times Report
Rajouri, Sept 13 : Farmers from various parts of the district held a protest Saturday outside the office of Chief Horticulture Officer here, alleging misuse of funds meant for their proper stay in the valley. They said they were sent back two days earlier from the valley due to the alleged mismanagement and inadequate lodging and boarding arrangements there. They have demanded a probe into the matter. On September 8, horticulture department, Rajouri, sent about 35 farmers from various parts of Rajouri district to meet the fruit growers of Kashmir and interact with them and take necessary tips for the production of quality fruits which can be cultivated in some parts of the district . "In the valley, we faced difficulties in getting proper lodging and boarding as the officials concerned had not coordinated properly with their counterparts in Kashmir," said Basharat Hussain, team leader. He said when the matter was raised with the concerned officials, they, instead making proper arrangements, cut short their tour by two days and sent them back to Rajouri. On Saturday, they held a protest outside the office of Yogesh Kesar, Chief Horticulture Officer, and apprised him of the problems they had faced in Kashmir. Kesar assured them that he will investigate the matter as all the possible arrangements had been made for the smooth conduct of their visit to the valley.
