Early Times Report

KISHTWAR, Sep 13: In shameful act, the members of the civil society, politicians and the students today fail to turn up at "Martyrs Graveyard" at Kishtwar Shahidi Mazar to pay tributes to five martyrs who laid their lives during 1974 college agitation and 1981-82 District agitation.
Besides it was for the first time in last 41 years that no official function was held on this day for which the people put blame on PDP-BJP government. Every year hundreds of students, politicians, members of civil society and government officials turn up at Shahidi Mazar Kishtwar for paying tribute to the Sons of Soil who without fearing for their life and future sacrificed their lives for the people and for the future of students ofKishtwar District.
The martyrs include Mohammad Iqbal Zarger son of Wali Joo Zarger resident of Zarger Mohallah Kishtwar, Ravinder Kumar son of Dhani Ram Gupta resident of Near DC Office Kishtwar, Gain Chand son of Sola Ram resident of Nagni Kishtwar and Abdul Kabir Sheikh son of Ahmed Joo Sheikh resident of Abubakar Mohallah Kishtwar. The slain who were all in their 20's attained martyrdom on September 13, 1974 for the cause of students while fighting for sanction of a Degree College at Kishtwar, where as another youth whose name is also Mohammad Iqbal Zarger son of Bahar Ahmed Zarger resident of Chinar Gali Kishtwar laid his life on January 17, 1982 for granting District status to Kishtwar. However, today nobody turned up till afternoon before some youths and media persons took on members of civil society and politicians on social websites forcing many to rush in hurry. After coming under heavy criticism, the ruling Peoples Democratic Party along with some civil society members turn up at Shahidi Mazar, Kishtwar and offered flowers on the graves of fivemartyrs. The first among those who reached martyrs graveyard to pay tribute to them was the management of Impact coaching institute, followed by PDP youth leaders Wasil Doolwal, Ishtaq Waza, Rashid Lone and senior citizen Raiz Ahmed Zargar.
The agitation is being ascertained as the bond of love and communal harmony between the two communities living together from centuries and these youths sacrifice their lives irrespective of caste, color creed and religion.
The speakers urge the people of Kishtwar to maintain peace and communal harmony so as to fill bridge between the two communities that has deepened particularly in wake of the aftermath of August 2013 Kishtwar communal violence. They urged upon the youth not to forget the Forgotten Martyrs
