JAMMU, Nov 30: A senior police officer posted in a district of Jammu region has landed in a big problem as his involvement is alleged to have figured in the use of a departmental vehicle in timber smuggling. The matter is very much in the notice of higher police and forest officers and the ministers concerned, according to official sources. Giving details, sources said a forest team, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a police vehicle (model 407) in a district of Jammu region and seized it after the team members discovered that timber was being smuggled in it to Jammu. The vehicle was seized along with the timber, the sources added. During investigation, the involvement of a senior police officer, posted in the particular district, figured in the alleged timber smuggling. Sources alleged that the timber was being clandestinely carried to Jammu at the behest of the senior police officer who wanted to give it to someone known to him. The senior officer was likely to face a legal action as the forest department had already brought the matter to the notice of his higher ups. |
