Politicians ride on smooth roads but dead go through bumpy rides on their last journey in Jammu | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 30: With the arrival of traditional 'Durbar move" here in the winter capital almost all the important road link were macadamized and even repaired barring only one which leads to Jammu city's main crematorium -leaving an impression that politicians having a smooth ride but the 'dead' are forced to have a bumpy ride during their 'last journey'. Due to poor condition of the road when dead bodies are brought to Jogi Gate cremation ground for performing last rites the transport vehicle is often stuck in traffic jam or hit road blocks before entering the cremation ground complex. Reason: The state govt agencies have failed to construct 'pucca' road from the link road to the Jogi Gate complex resulting in traffic jams at peak hours. Aggrieved family members and kin who assemble at the cremation ground -Jogi gate talk of numerous hardships including traffic congestions and bumpy last ride for the dead- courtesy bad road condition in the area. "Pot holed road, overflowed with sewage water further makes the funeral ceremony a -herculean task to negotiate way for the Hearse- the funeral vehicle, a local added. Ironically, the various state govt agencies have failed to complete the repair work of the main road leading to Jogi Gate for a long time and that too in the name of developing the Jammu Tawi River banks. The Jammu Municipal Corporation too has failed to maintain the area and share the blame for pathetic state of affairs on ground zero. Irked over alleged neglect, annoyed locals, have raised this issue on many occasions with the elected representative - the MLA and other senior state govt and district functionaries but it seems they are failure on this part as so far they failed to sit together to make the last journey for departed souls more peaceful. |
