MLA's attempt foiled | Jazia issue | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 30: Facing criticism from cross sections of the society for surrendering Jammu's interests just to remain in power, BJP leadership delibrately gave publicity to party's ministers and MLAs meeting with Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Saturdaymorning. They gave publicity to the meeting to befool people of Jammu region that they are very particular about their issues but instead the meeting they raised their own issues. But the party leadership has failed to convince the masses about its complete failure to force its coalition partner to withdraw controversial decision of imposing service tax on the devotees who travel in chopper to perform darshan of Mata Vaishno Devi. BJP ministers and MLAs, who represnt aspirations of the people of Jammu region, raised the issue of service tax on pilgrims only in a passing reference but they did not forcefully takeup this issue before the Chief Minister. Credible sources said that one MLA of the party raised this issuse before Chief Minister but his party ministers were not supportive. Instead of supporting the MLA, some ministers tried to snub him by interrupting him. Some BJP MLAs, sources said, were hoping that party ministers would take up the issue of service tax, which is widely called as "Jaziaya" by the common people but the ministers turned to be more particular about their own powers and privileges instead of raising the issue fo "Jaziaya" As reportedly all BJP ministers had claimed that "Jaziya" imposed by the coalition government on pilgrims of Mata Vaishno Devi will be revoked "very soon". It is really a matter of concern for the people of Jammu region because state government had announced in the recent assembly session not to revoke the order which was issued on September 2, 2015 to impose tax on the devotees. |
