Don't walk into Pakistani trap | Unconditional talks | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 30: Pakistan Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif, who has no power whatsoever and who only dances to the tunes of Army, ISI and dreaded terrorist organizations such as Lashkar-e-Toiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad and Hizbul Mujahideen, is in news these days. His Valletta (Malta) statement that he was prepared to hold unconditional talks with India has been described by many commentators and Pakistan-watchers as "an important development in the otherwise strained Indo-Pak relations" and led some to believe that India and Pakistan might resume the stalled dialogue process. According to Pakistani TV channel Geo News. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on November 28 indicated that Pakistan was ready for a dialogue with India "without pre-conditions for sustainable peace". Sharif was said to have given this indication during a meeting with his British counterpart David Cameron on the sidelines of Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) at Valletta. The channel reported that Sharif said Pakistan intended to maintain friendly relations with all its neighbours, including India and Afghanistan. Relations have been strained between the two neighbours over border firing and a series of ceasefire violations. Talks between National Security Advisors of the two countries were cancelled in August because of a dispute over the agenda. India wanted to discuss terror attacks as per the Ufa (Russia) understanding and Pakistan, on the other hand, insisted on raising Kashmir. The Pakistani Prime Minister told Cameron that Pakistan was deeply saddened by the recent terrorist attacks in Paris and that his country, itself being victim of terrorism, could feel the pain of French people. What Mian Nawaz Sharif said was nothing but a trap. He cannot and must not be trusted. His suggestion that Pakistan was ready for a dialogue with India without pre-conditions for sustainable peace must be rejected with the contempt it deserved. India should lay down four specific conditions for the resumption of talks with Pakistan. It must tell Islamabad that talks will be possible with Pakistani leadership only after Islamabad handed over to India all the perpetrators of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks and the 1993 serial bomb blasts in Mumbai, completely dismantled all terror-training factories within Pakistan and in Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir, stopped cross-border terrorism and stopped breaching Line of Control and International border and gave up its insistence on raising Kashmir issue. New Delhi should tell Islamabad that there is no dispute between the two nations as far as this part of Jammu & Kashmir was concerned and that Islamabad must withdraw all of its troops from the illegally-occupied areas if it wanted friendly relations with India. India would commit a blunder if it agreed to hold talks with Pakistan at this point in point. It has taken a right stand that talks and terror cannot go hand-in-hand and it must stick to it. |
