SRINAGAR, Dec 27 : Traffic on the historic Mughal road resumed after remaining suspended for four days due to snow and slippery road conditions.
Meanwhile, the national highway, connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country was through for both ways with some restrictions.
However, Bandipora-Gurez road, connecting dozens of villages, including those near the Line of Control (LoC) with district headquarter, also remained closed.
The national highway, linking the Ladakh region, with Kashmir also remained closed for winter months due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions, particularly at Zojila, Zero point, India Gate and Meenmarg.
The 86-km-long Mughal road, linking Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region, was put through today after remaining closed for the four days due to slippery road conditions, a traffic police official said this morning.
He said traffic was suspended due to below freezing temperature and snow on the road, resulting in slippery conditions.
"However, since there was some improvement in the weather, we allowed traffic from Rajouri and Poonch side this morning. About a dozen vehicles had crossed Pir-ki-Gali towards Kashmir," he added.
Vehicles from Kashmir to other side of the Gali will be allowed in the afternoon. However, the official said the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway was through for both ways with some restrictions. "We have fixed dead line for vehicles to cross particular points from Jammu and Srinagar to avoid any traffic jam or accident on the highway," he added. |
