Involve Jammu, Ladakh in dialogue process : Hari Om | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 27 : Appreciating the Congress's view that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's engagement with Pakistan "is frivolous, unpredictable, marked by fits and starts and abrupt U-turns", former political advisor to J&K BJP president Prof Hari Om on Sunday demanded involvement of Jammu and Ladakh in the dialogue process so that a lasting peace was forged in the state. Internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus also needed to be involved in the dialogue process as their stand on India and its territorial integrity is similar to that of the people of Jammu and Ladakh, he further said. "The involvement of Jammu and Ladakh in the dialogue process is imperative considering the facts that the aspirations, urges and needs of the people of these two regions are different from those of Kashmir and that the people of these two regions inhabit over 88 per cent of the state's land area," Prof Hari Om said. He added that the contradictions between Jammu and Kashmir and between Kashmir and Ladakh are fundamental in nature and irreconcilable. "An overwhelming majority of people of Jammu and Ladakh long for its complete merger with India and their other demands include the reorganization of state's polity on a regional basis and abrogation of Article 370 and Article 35-A of the Indian Constitution. The demands in Kashmir, on the other hand, include the state's merger with Pakistan, independence from India, self-rule and greater autonomy," said Prof Hari Om, adding that neither the people of Jammu and Ladakh regions nor the Kashmiri leaders are prepared to deviate from their respective positions. That's the reason that the inter-regional history of J&K is one of bitterness, hostility, rancour and animosity, he said. "No solution, which does not recognize these contradictions, will prove satisfactory to the people of Jammu and Ladakh or compatible with the good government of J&K. They are no longer prepared to accept the life of servitude and insubordination. They needed to be recognized as factors in the political situation of the state. Any attempt on the part of New Delhi to strike a deal over Kashmir with Pakistan or Kashmiri leadership over their heads as was done by New Delhi in the past will only provoke political explosions of portentous dimensions in these two regions, which are seething with anger, as also in the camps housing internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus," said Prof Hari Om. Jammu region witnesses massive movements at regular intervals against those who hurt its psyche, he said. To make his point, Prof Hari Om drew the attention of the policy-planers in New Delhi to what the people of Jammu did in 1952, 1977, 1998, 2008, 2011 and 2015 to defeat the anti-Jammu forces and what the people of Ladakh did in 1989 to achieve their political goal. "The authorities can ignore these realities at their own peril. They cannot sacrifice more than 40 per cent of the state's population to please the Valley leadership. The people of Jammu and Ladakh are as they are and their fate just can't be linked with those who vouch for a dispensation outside India or outside the Indian Constitutional framework," he said. Prof Hari Om expressed hope that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would appreciate the nature of the 2014 mandate that people of these two regions gave to the BJP and refashion his whole approach towards J&K State. He also asked all the 25 BJP MLAs to resign from their seats and seek fresh mandate so that the BJP leadership in the state and at the centre knows where it stands today in these two regions, the nation's sentinels in this border state. |
