'Article 370 the mother of all ills' | Anupam Kher's K-solution thought provoking | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 27: Bollywood actor and activist Anupam Kher is a sensitive person. He doesn't indulge in loose talks. He always talks sense and bats for the national interest and speaks for the deprived and persecuted sections of society without fear. He has the guts and the courage to take on the subversives and anti-nationals and hit the nail on the head. But more than that, he has the necessary ability and capability to diagnose ailment and prescribe right medicines. Kher did so on Saturday in the City of Temples, Jammu. The subject that he chose in Jammu to deal with and reflect upon was one of great national import. He talked about the Kashmir problem and also suggested a very viable solution to it - solution that could help New Delhi tackle the restive and militant and separatist-infested Kashmir and that could also help the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus achieve their long-cherished goal - separate homeland within the Kashmir Valley. His solution was: Abrogate Article 370 and create separate homeland for Kashmiri Hindus in the valley. "Once Article 370 is abrogated and people from West Bengal, Gujarat and other places settle in Kashmir, the issue will be solved forever," he said while interacting with media persons, and added that the Prime Minister must be given time till 2019 so that he could do the needful. He insisted that abrogation of Article 370 was a national requirement and expressed the hope that the Prime Minister would one day do the needful to solve the Kashmir problem. As far as his stand on the internally-displaced Kashmiri Hindus was concerned, he emphatically said "it was not possible for Pandits to return to their ancestral homes because of fear psychosis and the restless youth born after exile who did not have any feeling towards their homes except parents' emotions". It is, however, difficult to say that the BJP would ever adopt and implement the solution as advocated in Jammu by Anupam Kher. It is not the same BJP he saw before 2014; it's a different BJP that flirts with separatists like Sajad Lone and shares power with them; recognizes the state's special status; bats for demilitarization of the state and withdrawal of Armed Forces Special Powers Act and similar other Acts; dismisses waving of Pakistani and ISIS flags in Kashmir as non-events; wants the Kashmiri Hindus to be absorbed in the "Kashmiri milieu"; humiliates its own Jammu constituency to appease Kashmir and Kashmiri separatists; says, like separatists, that J&K is not a settled issue; sacrifices its own men (read Additional Advocate General and deputy Advocate General) to remain in power and supports the PDP's stand on cow killing and beef eating; supports the government decision like imposition of Jaziya on Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage; criticizes India for "using the J&K territories and its waters" and demands return of the NHPC-run power projects to the state; and so on. It appears Anupam Kher is not fully aware of what the BJP did to Jammu people and refugees, including Kashmiri Hindu refugees, during the past ten months. It also appears that he had not read the Agenda of Alliance. Had he read it, he would have lambasted the BJP and its leadership. However, to say all this is not to undermine the solution that he advocated to tackle Kashmir and rehabilitate Kashmiri Hindus in the separate homeland in the Valley. His was the best solution that deserves adoption and application in its letter and spirit. In fact, what he said was what the Indian nation actually believes in and longs for. Let's wait and see how the BJP view the Anupam Kher's solution. |
