Early Times Report
KUPWARA, Dec 27 : At least ten passengers were injured today when a Scorpio met with an accident at Sadhna top of Kupwara district, among which condition of three is said to be critical and were moved to Srinagar hospital for treatment. Sources from Tangdhar told Early Times over the phone that, a passenger vehicle Scorpio rolled deep into a gorge, in which all passengers were got injuries. These passengers were travelling in a Scorpio from Tangdhar to Kupwara skidded off from the road at Sadhna top and went into a deep gorge, said sources. Sources said, all injured were referred to the Kupwara district hospital, among which three injured who are said to be critical were shifted to Srinagar for further treatment. However local residents of Tangdhar said, "Due to frequent accidents, residents of Tangdar and Karnah areas of Kupwara district are up in arms against the unbiased approach of the government as they had appealed many times in past to construct a tunnel at the highest altitude of Sadhana top so that the far flung area can remain connected with the rest of the valley round the year." According to sources that, more than two lakh souls of Tangdar, Teetwal and Karanah remains cut off from rest of the Valley from December to May every year. There is a distance of 80 Km from Kupwara-Tandhar and road gets blocked due to accumulation of 15-20 feet of snow at Sadhana top, which is more than 11500 feet above the sea level, said sources. Many times in past we had appealed to the government for construction of Tunnel so that accidents could not occur, but their non serious approach towards these hilly areas have put the lives of common man at risk, even though during accidents we can't shift the serious patients for specialized treatment to hospitals in Srinagar or other places, they alleged. Locals said that, a tunnel from TCP Chowkibal to Zarla curve will negotiate the height of Sadhana pass and will prevent the loss of lives from snow avalanches, as they are the worst hit of snowfall during winters. Government is spending worth Rupees crores on the construction of roads and building, but they never gave their attention towards the development of the hilly areas, they complained. Locals further said that, "With the construction of this tunnel people of this border area will get relief and can be easily connected with rest of the valley during winters. |
