APSCC asks GOI to consider all communities for job package | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 27: All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee (APSCC) has impressed upon Government of India not to repeat 'mistakes' of past so that the 'privileged lot' are not entitled to job package and other benefits announced by New Delhi from time to time. Reacting to the recent announcement of Government of India that 3,000 jobs would be provided to Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir valley, APSCC Chairman Jagmohan Singh Raina said that members of majority community along with the members of other communities have been left out of the same. He said this is sheer injustice with the people who stayed back in Kashmir valley despite un-favourable conditions. "It is highly unfortunate and disappointing that Government of India has decided to give package to a privileged lot while keeping members of majority Muslim community and Sikhs at bay in such a process. Many families of Muslims, Sikhs and other communities got displaced within the valley, but still then there is no relief for them," said Raina. The APSCC chairman said that scores of families of Muslims, Sikhs and other communities had to migrate from rural areas to urban areas and as such they were deprived of their livelihood. These people had to give up on their assets in form of orchards and farms and take up menial jobs in the urban areas, he said. "We are not opposing the package but it should be given to people who have suffered irrespective of the religion or community they belong to. The pick and choose policy has wrecked havoc in the past and same cannot be ruled out if Government of India does not learn any lesson from previous mistakes," said Raina. The APSCC Chairman said that prior to 1989 majority Muslim community were given just two percent jobs in Kashmir with the rest being grabbed by members of a particular community. He said that same thing is likely to be repeated with Government of India announcing packages and sops for a privileged lot. "Muslims, Sikhs and members of other communities migrated from rural to urban areas not only in Kashmir, but in Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Bhaderwah areas of Jammu division. All of them have been left high and dry due to the wrong policies of the successive governments at the centre," said Raina. The APSCC Chairman said that the issue was raised during the recent meeting with Home Minister Rajnath Singh during his visit to Kashmir valley. He expressed disappointment that no headway whatsoever has been made with respect to giving minority status to Sikhs in Jammu & Kashmir. |
