Cong must support measures for stable Indo-Pak relations: PDP | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 27: Senior leader and chief PDP spokesperson Mehboob Beg today expressed disappointment over the stand taken by the Congress over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Pakistan. "I am surprised by the reactions coming-in from various Congress leaders, they seem to be anguished about the step taken by Modi. Is it not true that the Congress has always vouched for good and healthy relations with Pakistan," Dr Beg said. He added that the Congress has always made attempts, although half-heartedly, for a healthy relation with Pakistan and now they seem to be indulging in what is commonly known as 'Pakistan bashing'. In a statement issued here, Dr Beg expressed surprise over the reactions of Congress leaders like Mani Shankar Aiyar claiming that it was surprising to see the Congress and its leaders behave irresponsibly and opposing the moves of Modi just for the heck of it. He said, "there was no harm in holding talks in a third country, away from media glare, as it showed serious intent and the Congress had unnecessarily opposed the visit.'' "Mufti Sayeed has rightly pointed-out that good relations between India and Pakistan are essential not only for stability between the two nations but would also augur immensely well for stability and progress in the whole region," he said. Dr Beg welcomed Modi's visit to Pakistan and termed it as a very good beginning and called-upon all parties to support such moves claiming that such measures called for a 'national consensus'. He appealed to the Congress, terming it as a party that has played a vital role in nation building, to support such measures which would help build a stable and friendly relation between India and Pakistan |
