Tempos running on Sunerbani-Bhambla road turn death trap | | | A B Sharma Sunderbani, Dec 27: Putting lives of people to risk, the small tempo drivers on Sunderbani to Upper Hatthal , Makol Mandir Siya Devak, via Bhambla, the 20 kilometers road link has become a frightening journey. Small tempos are designed to carry 8 passengers per ferry, but for the impunity enjoyed by the drivers, these tempos are often overloaded with more than 20 people putting all passengers to fatal risk. The astonishing art of this journey is that since on the route there are number of check post where traffic police personnel are deputed to see into the convenience of the passengers, but the illegal activity is on galore despite such check. "We fail to understand as to why not the concerned authorities and the department take the cognizance of the matter and bring it into the officials notice for action," said Mohinder Kumar who is a frequent passenger on this road. The commoners allege that since there are many nakas on the roads, it seems that the traffic police and Jammu and Kashmir police is hand in glove with the illegal activity that is being carried on these roads that often lead to fatal accidents . It is pertinent to mention here that last year four dangerous accidents have occurred on this road that has consumed many lives. "JKP people are posted at a naka Peer Baba Sunderbani , the only route of these tempos, but no action have ever been initiated against such illegal activity, the commoners allege. Also the other conspicuous part of this risky drives is that none of the drivers plying tempos on these roads have a valid license to drive passenger vehicles. "Those who possess the license are meant only for light motor vehicles and they are not supposed to drive heavy vehicle," said one of the official of the ARTO office on condition of anonymity. Further, those plying the tempos on these routes have arranged that they ply their vehicles on alternative days in consensus with their fellow drivers and hence where 4 tempos should ply on the road, only two do the job per day taking along hundreds of people loaded fraught with dangerous ramifications. The staff officer of the area when contacted shied away from giving a validated reason for such management saying that it is the routine practice ASP Noushera Rakesh Kumar put the onus on the SHO. "You better ask the concerned SHO for such questions," was his bland reply. |
