UJC claims responsibility for Pathankot attack

SRINAGAR, Jan 4: At a time when different security agencies of the country are suspecting the hand of militant organization Jaish-e-Muhammad in the attack on Indian Air Force base at Pathankote in Punjab, an umbrella organization of different militant groups owned the responsibility of the attack.
United Jehad Council (UJC) an umbrella organization of separate militant organizations today claimed the responsibility of Pathankot attack. The UJC said that the attack was carried out by a special squad constituted in this regard.
Syed Sadaqat Hussain who claims to be the spokesman of UJC sent a statement to different news gathering agencies saying that UJC has carried out the Pathankot attack. The UJC spokesman said that the attack was carried out by specially constituted 'National Highway Squad'.
The UJC spokesman said that Kashmiri militants are 'fighting' against Government of India since last 27 years. He said that India has not succeeded in crushing the 'freedom' struggle despite use of 'brutal force'.
"Indian leadership must, without wasting more time, give Kashmiri people their Right to Self Determination. And also stop human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. Instead of blaming Pakistan, India should read writing on the wall that it cannot sabotage the struggle in Kashmir," said the UJC spokesman.
The claim of UJC about the Pathankote attack is quite contrary to the assumptions and presuppositions of the different security agencies operating in the country. Since the attack took place on Saturday the security agencies have been maintaining that the attack has been carried out by Jaish-e-Muhammad militants.
At the same time, Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has somewhat adopted a soft-approach in the matter and they seem to be more interested in forging good relations with Pakistan rather than teaching militants a lesson or two. The BJP is keen on having dialogue with Pakistan despite the fact that many voices have spoken against the same.
While in opposition the BJP would go full throttle against Pakistan as and when a militant attack took place in the country, there has been a change of heart vis-à-vis Pakistan as far as BJP is concerned since the party took over the reins at the centre. The softened stand with regard to Pakistan has not gone well with the people of country more so with those who lost their dear ones in the Pathankote militant attack.
Although, Pakistan has condemned the Pathankote militant attack there are not many takers for the same. It is more due to reason after reports that militants who have been killed so far had sneaked in to this part from across the border just four days back. As such people have been demanding that Government of India should send a strong message to Pakistan that militancy and militant attacks would not be tolerated.
