'Sifarish' defeats bravery | Selfie with PSO's rifle brings police officer medal for 'bravery' | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 4: Though a police officer did not fire a single shot in an encounter with militants in his district a few months back, he was given a medal for bravery on the basis of a selfie in which he was wearing a bullet-proof jacket with an assault rifle in his hand. There were two major terror attacks in his district and terrorists had also laid siege to a police station. However, instead of taking active part in the gunbattle, he moved away from the encounter site, wore his PSO's bullet-proof jacket, took his assault rifle in his own hand and then clicked a selfie, police sources said. By showing this selfie to his seniors later, he got his name recommended for a medal of bravery, sources said. While another police officer, who was wounded in the exchange of fire with terrorists, was not given even an appreciation certificate, the 'sifarashi' officer got the medal for fake bravery as the three terrorists were later shot dead by the valiant army troops. The officer, who was one among the police personnel who were given medals for bravery a few days back, had so far done no brave act in the police department, sources said. Another 'sifarashi' officer (DSP) was given a medal for 'fake' bravery for being part of the police contingent that had surrounded the highly revered Raghunath ji temple after terror attack on it. |
