Srinagar, Jan 6: With Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed's condition continuing to be critical at AIIMS, his children settled aboard and other family members including grandchildren, have rushed to New Delhi to be by the family head who is reported to be in semi-conscious state. Family sources said Mufti's two daughters and son, settled abroad rushed back to India and are by their ailing father whom doctors have put on sedation, in a bid to fight his lung infection. Family sources said after talking to elder sister Mehbooba Mufti, who has been by father's side since he was flown to the national capital last month, her siblings decided to rush back. Son, Mufti Tasaduq Sayeed, who works in the United States and two daughters Rubiya Sayeed and Mehmooda Sayeed, settled abroad have cancelled all their engagements and are camping at the AIIMS to be with their father round-the-clock. Mehbooba's two daughters Iltija Iqbal and Irtika Iqbal, who are very fond of their grandfather, are also there. Apart from them all, Mufti's wife Gulshan Ara is also stationed at the super specialty hospital. However, other visitors coming to meet Mufti are not allowed inside for the fear of infection. Family sources said the family reunion in this hour of crisis has come as a major support for Mehboob and Gulshan Ara, who had been going through sleepless nights since Mufti fell ill. "The family reunion has come as a solace for each other, as they look optimistic of Mufti Sahib's recovery," said an insider adding regular prayers are being held for his good health. Meanwhile doctors said he has been put under sedation since January 5. "His condition continues to be critical but haemodynamically stable, which means that his heart rate and blood pressure is under control," a doctor said. He rubbished the reports that Mufti was in coma. "He is not on ventilator support, he is on respiratory support. His condition, however, requires close monitoring," said the AIIMS doctor. Sayeed is currently on essential antibiotic and anti-fungal medicines. On being admitted at the hospital, his blood count was low and had been given blood transfusion. But doctors said as of now he does not require blood or blood products. "Since he has developed pneumonia and has had a previous history of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, which is a progressive disease of the lungs that makes it difficult to breathe, he has been put on oxygen therapy. He is not in coma but needs to be kept sedated as part of the treatment protocol," the doctor added. Sayeed was flown in from Srinagar, in a state aircraft, on the morning of December 24 after he complained of some uneasiness and fever. |
